What to do

Skiathos is located on the Northwest Aegean Sea, Sporades Archipelagos. The island is known for its soft and sandy beaches with crystal clear azure waters, its natural ambiance, the cosmopolitan aura, its luscious pine forest landscapes, reaching the waterfront and the vivid nightlife scene. During the 19th century, Skiathos became an important shipbuilding center in the Aegean. Skiathos island offers a plethora of outdoor activities such as horse-riding, water ski and hiking. At night time, it is recommended to walk around the harbor and explore the variety of traditional tavernas with Mediterranean cuisine.

The house of Alexander Papadiamantis, a prominent writer has become a modern museum which relates to his life and attracts many visitors.

It has an international airport, welcoming flights from multiple European cities such as, United Kingdom, Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Edinburgh, Helsinki, Vienna, Zurich, Paris, Italy, and more.

Activities in Skiathos

Day trip to Skopelos

Another unique island to visit in Sporades while in Skiathos, is Skopelos island with its lush vegetation and its exotic beaches, it was chosen to film the famous Hollywood movie “Mamma Mia” establishing the island as a holiday destination for travelers coming from all over the world. Villages like the main town and Glossa have kept the distinctive traditional architecture. Located only 25 minutes away.

Also, Alonissos the 3rd member is the Home to the National Marine Park of Northern Sporades. Approximately 2 hours away from Skiathos island and 20 minutes away from Skopelos.

Walking and Hiking

Explore the walking & hiking trails on Skiathos island. The scenic paths through the lush vegetation are many and they have levels of difficulty so even young children can enjoy the routes. The Roads of the Castle is 10.5km and its duration is 4h 50m. Most of the trails on the island offer archaeological treasures, impressive beaches and nature full of pine trees.

Museums

Skiathos has a memorable history. The house of Alexander Papadiamantis, a prominent writer has become a modern museum which relates to his life and attracts many visitors. Located in the town of Skiathos. Also worth visiting are the monasteries. They have kept their traditional architecture and are built in places with peaceful surroundings and panoramic views.

Scuba Diving & Snorkeling

With over 60 beaches on the island, Skiathos has a few diving centers for those who wish to explore the world under the sea. “Dolphin” is one of the first Diving center schools, operating since 1989. They are also a PADI Diving resort since 2008. They offer classes to beginners and experienced divers.

Another way to get to Skiathos island is by ferry, which requires a 2h 10m drive to Agios Konstantinos. From there you can get a ferry ticket to get you to Skiathos Island which depending on the  ferry  type it  could  take  from   1h 25m to 2h 5m.
